THE ARTISTS
SAMANTICS
SAMANTICS is a one-man machine of honesty, energy, words and noise. Using lyrics to portray his own unique vision of the world we’re all wandering, he speaks and screams from the centre of his erratic heart. Using a trolley full of sounds, ukulele, bass, beats, piano, harmonies, blips and bloops and wobbly wobbs, all brought together with loop station and sampler to create a hot pot of powerful, noisy poetry. It’s not quite hip-hop, but it’s not quite not. He’s been described as ‘impossible to stop watching’ and ‘mesmerising’ when he’s performing. Whether a festival tent filled with thousands, or a man and his dog in the local boozer, the live show is always the same: off. the. chain.
“A really clever fella… funny, entertaining, engaging and moving’.” – Steve Lamacq/Radio 6
“Since becoming a father, 'going out' has taken a back seat (unless it’s to soft play) but going to events or seeing live music or shows has almost stopped entirely. Juggling being a full time musician and raising a tiny ball of chaos is a challenge in itself, as the hours I work don't always fit with a toddlers sleep / awake patterns. It's so important to be able to watch live music (for both adults and children) as it's a space created by creativity and community. So, to know there's a gig where I'll get to play (my clean, child friendly set!) and hopefully have our little boy watching and singing along is an absolute dream for so many reasons, but to know we'll all be home in time for dinner is an absolute winner and I cannot wait to be involved!” - Sam
EDGELARKS
BBC Folk Award winners EDGELARKS (Phillip Henry and Hannah Martin) started their musical partnership deep in the Devon countryside, but soon looked beyond the westcountry to combine British folk roots with diverse influences from blues to Indian ragas. They have toured from Canada to South Africa, Australia to Japan. Their work has included collaborations with Salt Path author Raynor Winn; playing as part of the Gigspanner Big Band; and shows with the likes of Show Of Hands and Seth Lakeman. Soulful songwriting, fiddle and banjo meets dobro virtuosity and party-starting beatbox harmonica, producing a sound like no other. With 15 years on the road, seven albums, and two children under their belts, they are really looking forward to a hometown gig which their daughters Rosa (4) and Joni (1) can attend and lead the dancing!
"Since becoming parents, we've drastically reduced our gigging schedule, and only very rarely get to attend concerts ourselves. We are therefore so excited to be playing our first and only Exeter show for absolutely ages - and for it to be one that all our parent-friends can come to as well! An afternoon party and we'll still be in bed by ten pm, which is very necessary these days - perfect." Hannah Martin
